A SIMPLE AND FAST FIRST-ORDER PMD COMPENSATOR USING A POLARIZER
A simple, fast and cost-effective polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) compensation scheme is presented using a polarizer, feed-forward scheme and local polarization scrambling. Local polarization scrambling not only decreases the power level variation of the principal states of polarization (PSPs), but also provides enough information required for controlling the polarizer. This information is extracted from the degree of polarization (DOP) measurements. The results show that the proposed scheme can mitigate first-order PMD effects consistently in different PMD values.
