INVESTIGATION OF CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES FOR OPTICAL NETWORKS (Invited Paper)

It has become evident that a great of data services,computing grids, photonic multicast, OVPNs, ASON and new services require dedicated control planes and technologies. We propose and evaluate control technologies for supporting the hierarchical routing in automatically switched optical network (ASON), an new IPO (IP over optical) model which is designed to integrate and interconnect peer-to-peer networks with overlay networks, the active and programmable network where carriers can inject mobile code to remote optical switches via the signaling and deploy nonstandard or customized protocols and services dynamically, and the grid networking by which the optical network can be a dedicated infrastructure for supporting data-intensive transmission and grid computing. The evolution and development of control technologies enable the photonic multicast, class of services (CoS), OVPNs and potential optical services to be reality.
