EXPERIENCES GAINED FROM RECENT OPTICAL NETWORK TESTBEDS

The future of network technology is a unified network based on optical infrastructure. Optical Network Testbeds (ONTs) are being used to develop optical technology and test critical issues facing it. ONTs allow different organizations to coordinate in a stimulating research, or lab environment before implementing the technology in a real environment.This research project explores the details of some recent optical testbeds and technologies, analyzes the obstacles facing their implementation, proposes some solutions, and identifies future trends. This paper is intended to inform industrial, educational, and governmental organizations about the latest optical technologies being tested in various researches. These technologies have the potential to satisfy consumer demands for improving bandwidth, scalability, reliability, cost, and speed.
