Brillouin-scattering based fully distributed optical fiber sensing technology and its application in optical cable monitoring (Invited Paper)
Brillouin time-domain analysis in optical fiber is a novel technique which makes a distributed measurement of temperature and strain over long distance and by common optical fiber. The Brillouin scattering based fully distributed optical fiber sensing technology has attracted much attention which provides flexibility and practicality in situation. The application of Brillouin scattering based distributed optical fiber sensors are discussed. The Brillouin scattering based fully distributed optical fiber sensing system for long-distance optical cable real-time monitoring is built. The experiment results of using this system to monitor and locate the fault of submarine optical cable are given.
