Design and Implementation of a Distributed Polarization Coupling Measurement System with Enhanced Signal-to-Noise Ratio
A distributed polarization coupling (DPC) measurement system was designed and implemented using white light interferometry. It can be used for the measurement of DPC in a Hi-Bi fiber of up to 1km. It can also be used for the evaluation of polarization eigenmodes evolution in ordinary single-mode fibers. This system can be used in both fiber-optic sensors and optical fiber communications. A wavelet transform method was adopted in data processing to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). As a result, a SNR gain of more than 20 dB was achieved. The influence of denoising threshold on SNR and measurement accuracy was also considered.
