WAVELENGTH MULTIPLEXING OF OPTICAL FIBER MEMS FABRY-PEROT PRESSURE SENSORS EMPLOYING ARRAYED WAVEGUIDE GRATING

A wavelength multiplexing scheme of optical fiber microelectromechanical system (MEMS) Fabry-Perot pressure sensors using arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) is presented in this paper. Based on Fabry-Perot interferometry, the sensors are fabricated by employing the MEMS techniques and are demodulated with the Dual-wavelength method. AWG is used to multiplex the sensors. The demodulation and multiplexing principle are analyzed and experimentally verified. Experimental results demonstrate that the system can eliminate errors resulting from wavelength-independent variations in the fiber interconnect to the sensor, and has reasonable linearity, sensitivity, precision and fast response. Many sensors can be multiplexed in this system and there is no observable crosstalk among them.
