Optimal central composite designs for fitting second order response surface regression models

The central composite design (CCD) has been studied by many statisticians in response surface analysis, and is perhaps the most popular class of second order designs. In this paper, optimal CCDs under several design criteria (orthogonality, rotatability, slope rotatability, alphabetic design optimality, etc.) are discussed for fitting second order response surface regression models when the true model is of second order or third order. Also, considering all possible design criteria, suitable values of α for practical design purposes are recommended.
