Joint Time and Frequency Analysis for Unchirped Gaussian Pulses in Nonlinear Optical Fibers
The propagation of unchirped Gaussian pulses with the presence of attenuation, chromatic dispersion and selfphase modulation is studied with the joint time-frequency analysis method(JTFA). Split step Fourier transform is used to numerically get the waveform of the Gaussian pulses and Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) is employed to study the time and frequency characteristics of the signal. It is shown that energy distribution in both the frequency and time domain can be better depicted using JTFA. The method is helpful for the better understanding of the interaction between fiber loss, chromatic dispersion and nonlinear effects.
