In recent years, multi-scale modeling has received a great deal of attention in many disciplines of science and engineering. The Heterogeneous Multi-scale Method is to provide general guidelines for designing multi-scale methods for many different problems in different areas, as well as a mathematical framework for analyzing the stability, accuracy and efficiency of multi-scale methods.
