HOW TO IMPROVE THE CORE COMPETENCY: THE EXTENDED SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
With the China Open Door Policy, Chinese enterprises are quickly expanding their presence in the global market activities. Fran the electric toys to heavy machineries, Chinese enterprises are competing with all the multinational firms around the world. With cheap price and improving product quality, the world market finds that it is very difficult to reject the products labeled Made in China. But Comparing with their counterparts in the developed countries, Chinese enterprises are still very immature in their quality and manufacturing operation management. How to apply delicate supply chain management strategy to control the cost and lead time will be an important strategic task for Chinese managers in the future.I had one years implementation experience of ERP systems at several manufacturing plants in Shen Zhen industrial city. From my work and the close communications with the management of the plants, I found that by applying the theory of extended supply chain management, those plants can greatly improve their performance at manufacturing lead time (MLT),reduce inventory costs and eliminate information block points.
