A BROAD-SPECTRUM WATERMARKING ALGORITHM IN SIMILAR FORM OF MERCHANDISE BAR CODE FOR COPYRIGHT PROTECTION PURPOSE
For electronic commerce of digital image products, copyright protection is an important problem that needs a solution. Through conventional encryption algorithms, the rights and interests of copyright holders cannot be protected once the encryption is decoded. However, digital watermarking has unique advantage in protecting copyrights. As far as we know, the purpose of adding watermarking is to protect the copyrights of images, but not to destroy the quality of images, although they are conflicting requirements. In this paper, we extract the characteristic information from an image to construct a broad-spectrum watermarking, which has similar functions as merchandise bar code, for copyright protection purpose. In order to preserve the characteristics of the three RGB channels for original color digital images, we select the Y component of YIQ color space to construct the watermarking when the characteristic information is extracted. Through 1 to M stage wavelet transformation, the robust coeffi cients of LL approximate images are used to construct the watermarking, which is then sent to the third party certification organization to protect the copyrights. Numerical experiments have shown that, the robustness of the watermarking is good under various image processing and attacks. The algorithm has advantages such as computational simplicity, not requiring the original image for watermarking detection, high security, and easy implementation for practical applications.
