Center Manifold Reduction for Nonlinear Time-Delayed Systems Composed of Stiff and Soft Substructures

Based on the center manifold reduction, mis paper presents an approach to reduce nonlinear systems composed of both stiff and soft substructures and with time delays as well. The reduction procedure consists of two main steps. The first step is to convert the system equation into the standard critical form of delayed systems by introducing new time scales, a small singular parameter and some transformations between the state variables. The second step is to find a series approximation to the center manifold by solving some boundary value problems. Once the delayed system is reduced onto the center manifold, the further analysis can be made on the local dynamics such as the system stability and bifurcation. It has been successfully used in the stability analysis for a quarter car model equipped with an active suspension with a time delay caused by hydraulic actuator.
