A Penetrating Analysis of the Technical Conversion of a Bulker into a TSHD
The conversion of a bulker into a TSHD, as the name implies, refers to converting a used bulk cargo vessel into a large trailing suction hopper dredger(TSHD). Shanghai Waterway Bureau succeeded in completittg the technical conversion at the end of 2001, which evokes enormous repercussions in the international dredging and shipbuilding circles. This achievement also makes a breakthrough in the status quo of Chinas dredging fleet without TSHDs of hopper capacity above 10000m3, and opens a new chapter for building TSHDs with hopper capacity above 10000m3 on our own initiative. At present, the TSHD Xin Hai Xiang converted has been playing an important role and bringing good results in the Yangtze Estuary deepwater channel maintenance dredging works.
