New Type of Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger with Oil Recovery Equipment Kaisho-Maru
Kaisho-Maru is Japans latest dredger with oil recovery equipment constructed by IHI Marine United for the Kyushu Regional Development Bureau, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Japan. The dredger is also one of the largest oil recovery vessels in the world. Normally Kaisho-Maru is operated as a dredger to maintain seaways with heavy traffic or crowded anchorages. Sbould an oil spillage accident occur, the dredger can be dispatched to me site and work as an oil recovery vessel in the coastal areas of Japan, including ports and harbors. To achieve bom the missions, Kaisho-Maru is equipped with a drag-ladder with drag-head in the center of the stern well and two different types of oil recovery systems. This paper introduces the outline of this unique dredger, and also dredging results after delivery.
