Pennys Bay Reclamation for the Hong Kong International Theme Park Development

The Civil Engineering Department of the Government of the HKSAR has been carrying out a large scale reclamation at the Pennys Bay. Lantau Island since 2000 to provide 280 ha of land for the development of the Hong Kong Disneyland. The reclamauon is undertaken in two stages. The Stage 1 Reclamation commenced in May 2000 and was completed in December 2002. The Stage 2 Reclamation started in March 2003 for completion in the year 2008. This paper provides a background and an overview of this important project. The dredging, reclamation, soil improvement methods as well as environmental monitoring and mitigation measures are also described.
