New Feedstock for Biodiesel Production —— Analysis on Its Physical-Chemical Properties and Potential Assessment

Oil extracted from Camellia oleiferal COO, Jatropha curcas JCO, Cornus wilsoniana Wanger CWO and Vernicia fordii ( VFO) are assessed and determined. Experiment results shows that the optimum procedures and module of conversion are A2-B3-C2-D2 for COO feedstock, A1-B3-C2-D3 for CWO, A3-B1-C1-D1 for VFO, A2-B1-C3-D2 (RSO) and A3-B2-C3-D3 (JCO) . When reaction time reach 60~80 min, COO, JCO, CWO and RSO almost get ideal conversion ratio. VFO last longer time to get 50~60% conversion ratio. Melting points of biodiesel made from COO, JCO and CWO are higher than that from rapeseed oil. Cost of JCO and CWO as feedstock is lower than that of rapeseed oil because of its high yield and non-edible usage. Biodiesel made from COO, JCO and CWO has high qualities. We believe they have significance for fuel shortage regions located at poverty and mountain area. We would like to recommend the three species, which are assessed and determined in the paper should be extended cultivation on hillside fields. Both the economic and environmental benefits will meet the requirements of our community.
