Smooth Pursuit Eye Movement Model Based on The Functions of MT Cell and MST Cell

In this paper, a new smooth pursuit eye movement model is presented for human-like active vision system. We use the self-organizing feature map with winner take all to model the characteristics of MT (Medial Temporal) cell, and the tachometer feedback model is used to imitate the function of MST (Medial Superior Temporal) cell. Also, we consider the SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) actuator to mimic a motion of the eye muscles for the smooth pursuit. Computer experimental results show that the proposed model for smooth pursuit eye movement successfully performs the visual tracking to follow a slowly moving object.
