NURBS Snakes

A new definition for energy minimizing splines based on Non-Uniform Rational B-Splme (NURBS) curves is presented. This definition facilitates more local control over the entire contour. The use of rational curves introduces much needed adaptability into the solutions of the approximation problem because of the weighting parameters that take part in the description of the curves. The performance of the new model is tested using both synthetic and real images. The results show that the proposed model demonstrates more local flexibility than their previous snake models and is capable of attracting to the boundaries of the objects with increased accuracy.
