A Hardware Active Dendrite Model
The dendrites of neurons have been considered as electrically passive structures, which funnel synoptic potentials to the cell-body. Recent advances in the physiology have shown that the dendrites of many neurons were not passive, and they contained some active conductances. In this paper, we firstly construct a hardware model of the active dendrite simulating the backpropagation characteristics of action potentials. Next, by using the hardware active dendrite model, we show that the action potentials can be evoked from both the cell-bodys section and the dendrites section. And we also show that the cell-bodys action potentials generate earlier than that of the dendrites section, where we apply one-pulse stimulus to the dendrites section. Finally, we show that the earliest action potential evoked from the dendrites section is barely attenuated, and the subsequent spikes are attenuated propagating along the active dendrite.
