Principle of Neuroinformatics and Neuroinformation Coding

Neuroinformatics is a marginal and crossed discipline which combines the brain science, the information science and computer science together to investigate the form of neural information transporter, the mechanisms of generation, transmission, processing, coding, storage and retrieving of the neural information, and to construct the data bank system of neuroscience. Neuroinformatics can be subdivided into two parts: the molecular neuroinformatics and the systematic neuroinformatics. The fundamental information transporters of the molecular neuroinformatics are the different kinds of neuroinformatic molecules including neural transmitters, neural modifiers, neural peptides, neural hormones, neural tigands and receptors, ion channels, signal transduction molecules and the molecular networks of gene regulations. The structure and transmission units of systematic neuroinformatics are different kinds of neurons which form the complex neural network through die synaptic connections. A dual coding theory of neuronic information was suggested that the neuroinformation coding of neural networks includes two forms: the digital coding of neuronic impulse sequence and the weight coding of the synaptic connection efficiency. The Human Neurome Project (HuNP) was also suggested which aimed to measure the position, size, neuron number and density, neuronic branches, connections and synapses, neurotransmitters and receptors, ion channels, functions, etc of the complex structures in the human brain. The necessity and feasibility of the Human Neurome Project and the Human Brain Project was also analyzed and discussed.
