A Mathematical Model of Integration Field of Striate Cortical Neurons
The regions, called the Integration field (IF), beyond the classical receptive filed (CRF) of itriate cortical neurons was found in physiological experiments. Although neurons do not response to stimuli presented alone at the regions, their responses can be modulated while the IF and CRF are stimulated simultaneously. The toning properties of IF are similar to those of the CRF. In order to explore the mechanism of IF, a two-hexagon model was proposed based on the neural circuit of CRF and IF. We simulated the spatial structure, the length- and widthintegration curves, spatial frequency tuning, and orientation tuning of IF. We Investigated the functional role of IF ha visual image processing.
