A DSS Approach for Ranking Multicriteria Alternatives
This paper proposes a decision support System (DSS) approach for solving multicriteria analysis (MA) problems. The imprecision and subjectiveness of the decision making process are modeled using fuzzy set theory. An MA algorithm based on the concepts of the degree of optimality and the ideal solution using linguistic values is developed for assessing the overall performance of each alternative across all criteria on which the selection decision is being made. A DSS framework is designed that facilitates the selection of appropriate linguistic variables in real decision situation and allows the decision maker (DM) to explore the inter- and infrarelationships between the criteria, the alternatives and the ranking outcome of the alternatives through which a better understanding of the problem and the behavior of the DM can be achieved. As a result, effective decision can be made.
