Analysis of pregnancy outcome in Chinese patients with decreased ovarian reserve and unexplained infertility
Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the treatment outcomes of patients presenting with infertility solely due to decreased ovarian reserve (DOR) and treated by assisted reproductive technology (ART).Methods: The study included patients attending the Center for Reproductive Medicine between January 2010 and October 2015.Patients were grouped into eight groups according to their level of basal follicular stimulating hormone (bFSH) (bFSH 8<10IU/L and bFSH>10IU/L) and age (20-30,31-35,36-40,and 41-45 years). The live birth rate following either artificial insemination by the husband (AIH) or in vitro fertilization (IVF) was compared by groups. Results: The total live birth rate following AIH was 4.31% (22/511),which was significantly lower than that following IVF (24.82%;170/685).Longitudinal analysis determined that the number of attempts to achieve a live birth by AIH was similar to that with IVF across all groups. Conclusions:For patients with DOR,live birth rates following ART declined significantly with elevated bFSH levels and increasing age.Furthermore, within the same age group, live births with AIH were reduced in the cases of patients with a lower ovarian reserve.
