Experimental study on the relation between initial gas discharge and outburst intensity
Coal and gas outburst is a transient but vigorous process of energy release.Studies in the field mainly focus on the law of high-energy gas release at the beginning of a coal outburst.Yet, in the previous studies on the law of coal and gas outbursts, the acquisition of gas discharge data usually started when the pressure of gas samples was reduced to lower than the barometric pressure, which failed to comprehensively reflect the outburst process due to absence of the high-pressure gas release data block. This paper analyzed the whole process of gas discharge from the exposure of coal containing high-pressure gas, and in combination with a physical simulation experiment on coal and gas outburst, attempted to identify the relations between the gas volume released by coal and the outburst intensity at different time points. The experimental results indicated that the initial gas discharge was closely associated with gas outburst.: the thicker the initial gas discharge released by coal was, the higher risk of outburst and the greater outburst intensity there is, with the outburst threshold limit value(TLV) of 1.113 mL/g.When the initial gas discharge reached 2.688 mL/g, there was a risk of a violent outburst. The TLVs in this paper, as experimental data, have provided basis for the in-depth study on the relation between gas and outburst.
