A Novel Magnetic Driving Origami-inspired Structure Based on Bistable Anti-symmetric CFRP Shells
Origami-inspired structure, whose shape can be drastically deformed to a working configuration with multiple degrees of freedom, shows increasing potential in adaptive and morphing engineering fields. Most current Origami metamaterial needs continuous external force supply. Therefore,a magnetic driving Origami-inspired structure based on bistable anti-symmetric CFRP shells is presented in this paper, for its superior mechanics performance.Magnetic force generated by electromagnet is applied on the CFRP shells, and then the novel device deforms from initial stable stage to second stable shape. The required magnetic force for deformation is obtained by adjusting the magnitude of voltage. The comparison of the behaviour of the novel structure in simulation and experiment is given.Finite element result shows good agreement with measured result in experiment. The deformation process of the Origami structure shows the well ability to produce a snap motion under the magnetic force and keep in stable state without external force.
