Microwave Evaluation of Carbon Fiber Composites

The carbon fiber can be deformed,the direction of carbon fiber is different in the manufacturing process,which can affect the performance of the carbon fiber composites.So,it is necessary to detect carbon fiber direction and bending deformation.By studying the transmission characteristics of microwave in composite materials,a network analyzer was used to detect carbon fiber direction and bending deformation.The amplitude and phase of the reflection coefficient are the characteristic parameters to detect carbon fiber in composite materials.The results show that the reflection coefficient amplitude and phase of microwave signal are different when the carbon fiber direction is different or there is bending deformation in the carbon fiber composites.
