Facts and Myths: ICE use in Heroin Abusers

  ”ICE” (crystal methamphetamine) is among the most commonly abused drugs in the 21 st century.Research has indicated that this drug have significant negative impact on users.This is more problematic for polydrug abusers-those who abuse ICE and other illicit drug simultaneously.This study aims to explore the issues of ICE use in heroin abusers in Hong Kong and to uncover the pattern of drug cessation in these abusers.Nine local interviewees with the background of ICE and heroin abuse were interviewed.Themes have been identified under three sections;sections included i) the initiation of ICE use, ii) adverse impact of ICE use and iii) factors of drug cessation.Present findings fill the gap of the issues of ICE abuse in heroin abusers.With a better understanding of ICE abuse, policies, prevention campaigns and interventions can be designed and applied.
