The Control of Flow Over a Vehicle Using Splitter Plates
Aerodynamic drag reduction has shown a great potential to save fuel consumption of vehicles.Adding splitter plates in the tail of the vehicle is an efficient passive flow control technique to decrease the aerodynamic drag. This study based on Large-eddy sim-ulation presents the influence on using different types of splitter plates to reduce the drag of a simplified vehicle model and flow control mechanism. The most efficient one, which could weaken the direct interaction between the upper and lower shear layers, can achieve maximum drag reduction of 43.33%with the splitter plate located at the middle of the vertical base.
