Investigation about the Influence of Intake Port Tumble Ratio on Performance of a 3-Cylinder TGDI Engine Based on Dynamometer Test
We document the influence of different intake port designs with different tumble ratio on performance, combustion char- acteristics and exhaust emissions of a turbocharged gasoline direct injection(TGDI)1. 0-liter 3-cylinder engine under different operat- ing conditions. Besides, the effect of tumble ratio on the catalyst heating in the condition of cold start is investigated. The result of the en- gine dynamometer test demonstrates that when the tumble ratio of the intake port increases, the rate of combustion increases and the combustion duration is reduced. Furthermore, the combustion stability are improved and knock tendency are reduced with the higher tumble ratio. In the operating condition of part load, the higher tumble ratio reduces the fuel consumption and exhaust emission. In addi- tion, the catalyst light-off process during the engine cold start is improved by the higher tumble ratio.
