Research on Control Algorithm for Active Front Steering System

  Active front steering system can effectively improve vehicle handling and stability by changing the angular displacement characteristics of the steering system. In this paper, a control strategy of variable steering ratio is proposed to keep steering gain constant based on curve fitting. And the designed variable steering ratio is further smoothly processed based on the sigmoid fitting curve. To resist crosswind disturbance, using the error between the current yaw rate and the target yaw rate as the control value, a sliding mode variable structure controller is designed and the chattering problem existing in the sliding mode controller is also handled. The results show that the active front steering vehicle with the proposed control strategy has fine dynamic steering characteristic and can provide greater vehicle sta- bility.
