Lightweight Design of Center Axle Trailer Train of Car Carrier Based on Topology Optimization Method

  Due to the newly issued national standard GB 1589—2016, the center axle trailer train of car carrier has attracted wide attention and tends to be the main equipment in highway transportation of commercial vehicle. This paper focuses on the lightweight struc- ture design of a center axle trailer train of car carrier using finite element method. First, the stiffness and strength of the original design are analyzed based on the manufacture’s specific requirements. Then the optimal design is carried out using structure topology optimiza- tion and multi-objective optimization. In the end, the total weight reduction of the bare frame reaches 977kg, that is, 13. 9% in propor- tion of the bare frame at 7022kg. The investigation in this paper is of significance to the lightweight design of the car carrier.
