Lightweight Optimization Design of Aluminum Vehicle Body Based on Primary Cross Section in the Concept Phase of Development
This paper presents an optimization method of the primary cross sections in the concept design phase of vehicle body de- velopment. Based on actual joints, a simplified model of BIW was built, and then their sectional thickness, material and outline of the cross section of beam-like structure were optimized with multi-objective optimization techniques. As a result, a reasonable sectional thickness and sectional outline was defined, meanwhile the modal and stiffness defined as the optimization target of vehicle body were improved, and body weight also reduced. The method not only can guide forward design of sectional outline, but also can greatly reduce the body weight.
