Validating a Mobile-Assisted Language Learning Norms Scale
This study presents the preliminary findings with reference to validating a mobile-assisted language learning norms scale.Norms represent a set of implicit rules that serve to regulate the behavior of an individual.Learners” intentions to learn can therefore be greatly influenced and shaped by different types of norms rooted in a technology-oriented environment. However, despite the significance of social norms,a reliable and valid instrument that taps into social norms about language learning has yet to be developed. This study validated a four-factor language learning norms structure, including peer norm, family norm, instructor norm, and technology norm. The scale is developed using a multidimensional Rasch modeling approach. The research findings suggest that the scale is both valid and reliable. The items of each factor fit well to the Rash model, and each factor can obtain adequate and convincing reliability.
