A Literature Review of Machine Translation from Selected Publications(2000-2016)
This paper presents a literature review of machine translation based on a total of 190 publications in the Web of Science Core Collection from 2000 to 2016.The results indicate that in recent 17 years,hot research topics about machine translation include the model designing of machine translation,applications of machine translation,and evaluation of machine translation outputs.The changes in the most popular research topics in the past 17 years also reflect the changing of researchers” interest as well as market demand.Before 2007,researchers consistently emphasized the rules and principles of designing machine translation.However,researchers” focus shifted from the model designing to the application and the evaluation from 2007 to 2015,while research on statistical-based machine translation systems gradually replaced that on rule-based machine translation systems.And of our particular interest,over 30 out of the total 190 papers focus on MT for foreign language teaching and learning.The study aims to inform the academic community about the research trends,regions of research contributions,and hot topics of machine translation.
