A comparative study on Pharmaceutical Marketing in China and United States

  The aim of this paper is to perform a comparative study on pharmaceutical marketing in China and United States.As the pharmaceutical market is a billion-dollar market and USA is the first largest market of pharmaceuticals and China is the third biggest pharmaceutical market globally.Marketing of pharmaceuticals is different in all the three countries.Direct to consumer advertising is legal in USA.In China,there are certain restrictions to market the drugs directly to the consumers and in India it is not legal to market the pharmaceuticals directly to the consumers.FDA regulations are different for the three countries and different marketing strategies are being followed by the pharmaceutical companies to improve the sales and reach the consumers.There are also some controversies in the marketing of pharmaceuticals which are affecting the patient safety.The marketing of drugs is done through a chain which includes pharmaceutical companies,distributors,pharmacies and hospitals and finally reaches the consumers.the pharmaceutical industry in every country comprises of companies engaged in research and development,manufacturing and distribution of drugs to human.But the back bone for any pharmaceutical company is the marketing team which makes the drug reach the patients.Pharmaceutical marketing starts with the customer and ends with customer as the customers are considered as valuable assets for the marketing business.It is the business of flow of goods from manufacturer to the consumer.China is experiencing a rapid growth in the past decades and are recognized as world”s dynamic emerging markets and USA is already a grown and recognized market.China and United States have different marketing strategies being followed which made them to be the top markets in the pharmaceutical industry.In the current days marketing strategies play a key role in the promotion of the pharmaceuticals and the pharmaceutical companies are competing to develop and change the marketing strategies to cope up with the developing needs of the consumers and to withstand the competition in the market.The research question guiding the literature review will be ”What are the marketing strategies guiding China and USA to be the leading pharmaceutical markets globally?”
