Perceived indoor environment quality and indoor human behaviors in rural residential houses:a summer questionnaire survey in three towns of China

A positive environmental behavior is of great significance to energy conservation and pollutant emission reduction, and more conducive to the improvement of human health and well-being.This study aims to investigate perceived indoor environment quality and indoor human behaviors by a questionnaire survey conducted in the summer of 2016.Three rural areas located in three typical architectural climate zones of China, were randomly chosen for analysis and comparison.Around three hundred respondents were collected in this questionnaire survey,in which perceived indoor environment quality and typical human activities such as cooking,window-opening,and air conditioning were included accordingly. The descriptive statistics and contrastive analysis were conducted by Excel software. The interaction between human behaviors and perceived air environment quality was identified according to the perception and response of those respondents. The results indicate that, the satisfaction rate of indoor air quality was relatively higher; people improve indoor air quality mainly by opening window, not by air purifier; cooking can produce many harmful gas; the way to switch windows or air-conditionings are related to climate and environment. This study could be a reference to better understand the impact of human behaviors to indoor environment quality.
