The Relationship between Health Insurance Coverage and Health Care Services Utilization among the Elderly in China:Based on the CHARLS Dataset
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between different kinds of health insurance coverage and health care services utilization among the elderly in China.The data used in this study came from the 2013 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS),which is a national survey.Older adults aged 60 and above were included in the study.The Andersen Health Care Services Utilization Behavioral Model was used as the study framework to understand the impact of health insurance coverage on health care services utilization.The framework discusses the relationship between predisposing elements,enabling variables,and need for care factors and health care services utilization.The main results show that predisposing,enabling and need for care factors predicted health care services utilization among the elderly both in urban and rural China.It is expected that this study will extend knowledge in the area of health insurance and health care service utilization,giving us insight into the overall effects of health insurance coverage on health service use among older adults.
