Experimental study on RC slab-column frame strengthened by buckling restrained braces
Slab-column system,as a popular structure form in concrete buildings, still requires improvement in lateral stiffness and seismic behavior. To strengthen the performance of slab-column system, herringbone buckling restrained braces were used.A pseudo-static test on a one-half scale,one-bay and one-story model was conducted to evaluate the seismic performance of the slab-column frame with buckling restrained braces. The cracks started from the joint of the column and embedded parts, which was also the most severely damaged location. The model finally failed due to the failure of tensile brace in the loading process of 50 mm displacement. The failure mode, hysteretic loops, skeleton curve, and deformation of the braces were presented in this paper. The results show that the buckling restrained braces can effectively increase the lateral bearing capacity and lateral stiffness of slab-column structure.Buckling restrained braces should be considered in strengthening and design of the slab-column structure.
