Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an inadequate indicator of national economic progress for a number of reasons. To deal with its shortcomings, a Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI)has been devised. The GPI consists of around 25 benefit and cost items, where the final GPI value equals the sum of the all the benefit values minus all the cost values.
