China-Africa Industrial Capacity Cooperation: Achievements,Challenges and the Way Forward
In recent times, the relationship between African countries and China has attracted global attention as a result of its sudden rise.One of the major reasons for such global focus is the implications that are associated with this relationship on the global economy.As a result of this apprehension, China-Africa relationship is viewed by individuals, groups and other countries from different perspectives.For example, while some of the African political leaders consider China”s hand of friendship across the continent as an avenue for building industrial capacity and achieve their aspiration for industrialization, others see it as another form of colonization where the continent will be turned into a source of cheap raw materials and dumping ground for old technology and finished goods from China.Against this backdrop, this paper examines the achievements and challenges associated with China-Africa Industrial Capacity Cooperation.The paper being an ex post facto research relied on published related materials.Findings of the study revealed that despite the mixed reactions that have greeted the China-Africa relations the relationship has recorded some significant achievements in its current status.A testament to this assertion is the various joint industrial projects running in billions of dollars being undertaken in different African countries by the Chinese government.In addition,findings of the paper indicate that notwithstanding the current achievements, China-Africa relations are still facing some challenges especially on the issue of trust or negative perception.Consequently, it is the opinion of the authors that more public relations should be done to correct the public misunderstanding and perception of China-Africa relations.
