Polyurethane decorated polyamide nanofibrous films with enhanced mechanical performance, waterproof ability and good breathability
1 Introduction Electrospun films are known for the high porosity, large specific surface area and breathability.1 They have wide applications including filtration, dust removal, protect clothes, wound dressing and tissue engineering etc.Through co-axial electropinning,2 dual-jet electrospinning3 and solution blending electrospinning,4 composite electrospun films with multiple functions can be obtained.Surface decoration is one of the most effective methods.5 In this work, the PU decorated PA6 electrospun nanofilms were fabricated by simply immersing the polyamide (PA) electrospun nanofilms in polyurethane (PU) solutions.It was found that the water-proof ability of the PA nanofilms was greatly improved.Moreover, the ultimate tensile strength of PA6 nanofilms was remarkably increased from 6 MPa to 22 MPa.Interestingly, the PA/PU nanomats showed strong water-vapor permeation ability.Such PU decorated PA6 nanofilms are of great potential in wide applications range from wound dressing to protective clothing.
