A review of thermally rearrangement polymer for gas separation membranes
Benzoxazole, benzithiazole, and benzimidazole, et al.are promising materials for gas separation membranes with superior thermal and chemical stability, due to their rigid-rod structure and high-torsional energy barriers to rotation”1”.However, since these rigid polymers are not insoluble in common organic solvents, it”s very difficult to prepare PBO or PBI membranes by traditional solution-cast methods. This problem can be overcome by thermally rearranging ortho-functional polyimides into benzo-heterocyclic polymers. And the obtained TR-polymer membranes are demontrated outstanding gas transport performance and resistance to plastisization, resulting from their fine-tuned cavity size and distribution, which can be affected by regulating chain backbone of precursors and thermal treatment protocols.Another benefit is that TR-polymer hollow fiber membranes can be fabricated, which takes a big step forward industrial application.
