The time course of emotional picture processing: an ERP study with RSVP paradigm

Objective Our previous studies found that the processing of both emotional facial expression and word showed three different stages, under conditions of limited attention resources, i.e., in the first stage, the brain distinguished negative stimuli from non-negative ones.Next, the brain discerned emotional stimuli from non-emotional stimuli.Lastly, negative, neutral, and positive adjective were separated.Considering the potential similarities between processing emotional facial expressions and pictures (not face-related), we used event-related potentials (ERPs) to explore the temporal characteristics of emotional picture processing.
