Managing the protein folding demands in the ER of plants
Protein folding is a fundamental process in eukaryotic cells. When unfolded or misfolded proteins accumulate in the endoplasmic reticulum(ER),a conserved response in yeast, mammals and plants called the unfolded protein response(UPR) is elicited to ensure proper protein folding by either enhancing folding capacity or attenuating folding demands.
