Methane Effect for Tight Oil Flowing through Nano-pore Throat:A Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study

Oilusuallyoccurs in the formationsaturated to some degree with methane, which is crucial for the migration, accumulation and recovery of hydrocarbon in the unconventional petroleum system. In this work, the LAMMPS was utilizedto perform MD simulations, investigated the effect of methane on the tight oil transporting through the nano-pore throat. The simulation results showed that the oil transport was hampered during the translocation from the wide nanopore into the narrow nanopore. However, with the CH4 content or temperatureincreasing, the threshold pulling force(TPF)of the oil through the nanopore throat reduced. Then we found that the energy barrierresultingfrom the deformation of hydrocarbon and interaction between hydrocarbon molecule and nanoporedecreased with the present of CH4.Moreover,the interfacial tension(IFT)of oil-water decreased and the diffusion coefficient of the oil increased because of the CH4 dissolving in the oil phase. On the other hand,we found that different oil-associated gases can slightly affect oil transportation in nanopore. These findings are helpful for understanding the migration of tight oil in the nanopore at the molecular lever and facilitate technological developments in enhancing recovery efficiency of unconventional petroleum.
