Impact Performance of Three-Dimensional Hollow-Core Wood Strand Sandwich Panel
The objective of this research was to study experimentally the low velocity impact behavior of sandwich panels consisting of Ponderosa Pine and Lodgepole Pine.In this study, four different composite panel configurations were fabricated and tested, the diameter of leading head is 25.4 mm and13.80 kg hammer with impact velocity of 3.0 m/s was used, the drop height from 500 mm.Instrumented panels were impacted with a drop mass setup and the force, displacement and energy histories were recorded.Damage was characterized and quantified after the test. Results were compared with ten different kinds of panes made of the two wood species.Through this series of research,we have established correlations between impact force, damage energy, and displacement properties of the different thin panel, core and sandwich panels with foam and without, the study results can be employed to estimate impact load bearing capabilities for sandwich panels design and maintenance purposes.
