Synthesis and Conductivity of Directly Cross-linked Poly(vinyl alcohol)/Bis(2-chloroethyl)ether-1,3-bis”3-(Dimethylamino)propyl”urea Copolymer Composite Alkaline Anion-exchange Membranes
Alkaline anion-exchange membranes were prepared from poly(vinyl alcohol)and Poly(vinyl alcohol)/Bis(2-chloroethyl)ether-1,3-bis”3-(Dimethylamino)propyl”urea copolymer by blending, then chemical cross-linking using glutaraldehyde as the cross-linking agent(PVA–PUB–GA).The membranes were prepared with different concentration solution consisting of PUB.The OHconductivity of the membranes was found to be increased with increasing mass ratio of PUB,achieved high up to 6.78 × 10-3S cm-1 at room temperature. Moreover,The OH-conductivities were all gradually increased with increasing temperature, where the maximum OH-conductivity of 9.28 × 10-3 S cm-1 was obtained at 80oC.In particular,A promising H2/O2 fuel cell peak power density of 28.6 mW cm-2 is reached for MEA fabricated with this PVA/PUB-GA(1:0.5:0.1 by mass)at room temperature,on a low metal loading on both the anode and the cathode of 0.5 mg(Pt)cm-2 at ambient temperature.
