CFD SIMULATION AND EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION OF PARTICLE DEPOSITION ON WAVY FIN-AND-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER

  As the dust particle deposition on wavy fin-and-tube heat exchangers may increase the pressure drop and deteriorate the heat transfer performance,a numerical model for predicting the particle deposition rate was developed in this paper.In the model,the particle trajectories were calculated by the model of particle transportation; the particle deposition rate on wavy fins was obtained by the model of particle-wall impact; the particle deposition rate on fouling layer was obtained by the model of particle-fouling layer impact.A visual experimental rig was set up to validate the numerical model by comparing the particle distribution and the particle deposition rate.The validation results show that the predicted particle distribution on wavy fins can qualitatively agree with the visualization images; the predicted particle deposition rate can describe 88%of the experimental data within the deviation limit of ±20%.
