Friction reduction and aged oil friction retention properties of organo-molybdenum friction modifiers in rolling and sliding contacts
In the present study the effectiveness of organo-molybdenum compounds, such as molybdenum dithiocarbamate(MoDTC) and molybdate esters for friction reduction and aged oil friction retention properties in rolling and sliding contacts, are evaluated. In particular, three different MoDTC samples with 10% molybdenum content prepared by different synthesis methods were evaluated for their friction reduction and aged friction retention properties. Furthermore, efforts were made to optimize the friction reduction and aged oil friction retention by combining MoDTC and a low cost molybdate ester for further improvement in the frictional properties. All experiments were conducted in rolling and sliding contact by generating Stribeck curves.
