In Vitro Properties of an Engineered Bone Prepared with Silk Fibroin and Anodonta woodiana Lea shell
A novel composite for engineered bone was prepared with powders of silk fibroin and the shell of Anodonta woodiana Lea.The silk fibroin was obtained from the posterior silk gland of silkworms(Bombyx mori).Samples of composite for engineered bone were prepared with different mass ratios between the fibroin and shell powders. The inner microstructure and mechanical properties of samples matched the requirements for engineered bone. Some bondings may have occurred between the elements of silk fibroin and shell molecules. The engineered bone sample prepared with silk fibroin and A.woodiana shell was stable at temperatures required for moist heat sterilization.
